Tron Legacy isnt a very good film, its nice enough looking but its actualy quite badly made. The light cycle sequence for instance is shot really close up and theres no sense of scale too it. plus you dont really get any impression of where the bikes are going in comparison to anything else.

It is also a pretty souless film, especially in regards to the characters. The main actor (cant say I even bothered to remember his name) isnt the least bit endearing and Olivia Wilde continues to be in every single film released latley despite the fact that she cant act. Also, Jeff Bridges seemed to be drunk for the entierity of the production judging by his performance, so I guess that didnt help either.

Just saw From Paris with Love, it was about 75% better than I thought it was going to be. Pretty awesome once Travolta gets on the scene, some pretty nice action pieces and decent dialog/banter. I cant believe more people havent seen/enjoyed this considering it has loads of swearing and violence in. Havent seen a movie like this made recently in a Loooooooong time.

I watched Super 8 when in Estonia (?2.50 for a ticket!) was really nice, like a modern version of a nice childhood film. Captured the look and feel perfectly.

Also caught Our Man in Havanna at a pop up cinema the same night too, that was funny.

I saw How to Train Your Dragon, which was great!

They took the concepts of dragons (breath fire) and Vikings (tough warriors) but took the story in a different direction to how I expected and wasn't sure about how the problems on both sides would be resolved.

Had fun spotting the voices and I thought the character of Toothless was brilliantly realised, fierce and cute in even portions.

            Liked it!

^^ I read about ET being censored but never tried checking it out for myself. That's quite freaky.

^Didn't know about that. How odd!

Just watched Pontypool. Was actually expecting it to be some low-budget Welsh horror comedy(!) but it's actually a Canadian film with an odd plot. It's all set in this radio station as a weird 'virus' causes everyone on the outside to turn into maniacs (this 'virus' is passed on through the way people understand words - told you it was odd). Doesn't quite work but the small-scale setting and decent acting make it interesting, and I'm certain that many will love it. 6/10

****, two more, Paycheck and Green Street. Paycheck wasn't bad, felt like a 12-cert kiddie reimagining of Total Recall but without the blood n' guts, Mars, or a Schwarzenegger-level presence strong enough to make it truly decent. Mainly notable for the oiliest hairstyles I've probably ever seen in a film, Affleck's is distasteful enough but Aaron Eckhart's made me want to vomit, so slick n' vulgarly odious it is, like he's wearing Bobby Peru from Wild At Heart on his head. Also noticed (pedantry alert) that Affleck is looking at a newspaper clipping fairly early on in the film and it says "it's" when it should just've been "its". Yup, got on my its a bit did that, given that this is a big Hollywood blockbuster n' all (I thought they had 'people' for that???) 6/10.

Green Street? It was pretty good, a bit contrived but solid enough. Worst part was Elijah's best mate's accent who gets him on the firm, he was meant to sound Cockney but it sounded like the bloke was Irish (turns out he's from Newcastle). About as decent as I thought it was gonna be, 7/10.

                    I watched Get Carter.

                      I loved it!

I watched Armageddon Of The Dead. Bought it from Poundland, which says it all really. Cover was very misleading. Utter rubbish!

Saw Super 8 last night. Not that impressed. Felt like I'd seen it before cos it was a combination of Goonies, ET, Cloverfield & Transformers, all of which I was never a fan of in the 1st place. End credits made me chuckle tho!

Also saw Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Thought it was great. Starts off so lovely & happy, then gets darker & darker. Again great end credits section to remind you how it escalates!!

Watched the original 1953 version of The War of the Worlds.

‘Guns, tanks, bombs, they’re like toys to them!!’

                        Utter classic.

Also watched the Spielberg remake. It gets some stick but I think it’s an excellent retelling of the same story. It’s just done from a family perspective instead of a scientific one.

Plus it has one of the best cameos of all time at the end.

I love the remake of WOTW. Thought it was fantastic

I saw that War of the Worlds 2 is on some time this weekend on the Syfy channel.
Might be best to give that a miss

Some love here also for the WOTW remake.

Just seen Xmen first class, much better than previous 3 IMO. It was kool seeing the film start off interjecting with Magnetos and Xaviers paths until they crossed. In fact its convinced me that the previously planned Magneto movie would've been brilliant if it was just about Magneto and Shaw. You could tell they saw what Fassbender did in Inglorious Bastards and wanted to have a feel of that with a youthful Magneto albeit with much more menace which was pulled off really well.

Fast & Furious. I can't believe it's taken me so long to buy and watch this, as I really love all the others. In my head I know they're ****, the part of my brain that tells me to get up for work in the morning, pay my bills and all that other sensible stuff feels sick at the thought of them. However, the other part of my brain that wants nothing other than to be entertained kicks sensible side senseless, bludgeons it with a baseball bat and pisses on the bloodied pulsating corpse. Loved it, and has me sitting eagerly awaiting the arrival of fast five on blu. Don't judge me.............
