I guess nobody is interested in commenting on the game last night then? A quarter final place against Lille is better than a smack in the mouth don't you say?

I heard someone that the winner of the Europa league now goes into the following year's Champions league. Surely that would be a huge incentive alone enough.

They occasionally talk about doing it but I think the chances are slim.

It diminishes both the Europa League ('win this and you'll compete in a REAL competition') and the Champions League itself.

Only watched this on a stream, which is pretty much the same as not seeing it at all. Seemed a bit pedestrian, but a decent result.

Like abigsmurf says, they've talked about putting the winners into the European Cup, but it's not happening yet.

It was all very easily paced for Liverpool. They had a little spell where they put the foot down, got their 3 goals and shut up shop.

Was a poor game to watch really, but at least they managed to get through. Lille is definitely an interesting prospect. Even better is the fact that because Everton went out Liverpool now play their second leg at home, if Everton had gone through it'd have been Liverpool at home first \o/

Every cloud has a silver lining

Wow, we are playing so poorly. Again, passing a simple ball proving to be a big ask.

Blimey, didn't expect that, bonus result for the rest of the top four chasers. With a better selection of final ball Wigan could have added another at the end there too.

3 teams with (potential) 6 point leads, can't see that being made up in 10 games (which include Chelsea and Man U)

A three-goal win would not have been flattering to Wigan.

Desperately piss-poor stuff tonight - right down there with Portsmouth away. Spurs have a game in hand over us, Man City have two and Villa have three. Barring a sudden and extreme bout of relegation form from the aforementioned and the mother of all winning runs (including Man-ure away and Chelski at home) from us, finishing 4th is out of the question now, surely? 7th looks more likely.

I fear Rafa will be off at the end of this season, either shown the door or (more likely, imo) by his own choice. The thought of what could possibly be in store for LFC over the next few seasons is truly depressing.

Gary Megson's still out of work, I think.

I think if this season's form carries through to next season I'm gonna cancel Sky Sports and ESPN. I will watch most football but primarily I pay to watch Liverpool. Its depressing viewing, this stuff.

I dont think I've enjoyed a Liverpool game I've watched since the Hull thumping. That seems like a lifetime ago.

As for tonight's performance. I think captain marvel Gerrard can take a large portion of the blame, he was cast in the creative role. Something he thinks he can do and he was atrocious. I lost count the amount of times he failed to control a simple pass first time, meaning his second touch was under immediate pressure. That caused him to give the ball away so much.

Credit to Wigan though, they were very good in their pressing of Liverpool's possession. Benayoun was lacklustre, Maxi the same and Kuyt's performance doesn't even warrant a comment. There was nothing at all creative for Liverpool tonight and Torres suffered because of it.

                          Insua is a crab.

He may be a crab but he was one of our better performers last night. Gerrard's corner taking was attrocious.

                            Bah, **** heads.

We'll finish on 67 points I reckon. Might scrape 4th with that, but 5th more likely.

                                7th I think.
