Change any of your equiped items recently?

It can't be anything I have equiped I don't think, I have been making a note of what my raw stats are(everything unequiped) at around the lvl 1000 mark then what they are after transmigration and building back up to lvl 1000 again. My DEF went from 3635, to 12538, then dropped to 10869. Also when I mean I transmigrated a few levels short I mean from what I was originally, so I was over the lvl 1000 mark but below my previous level, I think it might be the fact that I had not got above the level I was at previously that has done it, guessing though. I want to build my weapon and armour up before transmigrating again, but I'll make sure I'm above the level I was at previously and see what happens.
Thanks both of you for your help though.

I just noticed something similar happening to me last night, actually. Got Laharl up to lvl1008 and transm'ed him three times in a row, and some stats each time I got back up to 1008 were noticably lower than previously. The only thing I can attribute it to is that I previously transmigrated him at lvl1680, so maybe it's trying to smooth out the stats increase I gained then.

Bloody frustrating, and not a little worrying. A bit scared that I've managed to completely screw his potential up.

Something to watch out for when I get to that stage then. It would be interesting to see how the stats varied if you always trasmigrated from the same level. When I get that far I will make sure it happens from the same or higher level and see how the stats go.

It's still happening. I've just bumped him back up to 1008 again and all his stats are lower than the last time he was at that level. He's got all the same equipment on.

It's screwy, because this wasn't happening before - I was seeing a similar rise in stats to what Saur mentioned earlier in the thread (my attack after transmigration and at lvl600ish being the same as it was prior to transm and at lvl1000ish) up until last night.

His base stats are higher after each transmigration (obviously, what with the increase in free stats each time), so his final stats should also be higher. If what I mentioned in the last post isn't responsible - and it still might be - then the only other thing I can think of is that stats increase per level is based on either the number/levels of enemies killed - I've passed a number of stronger enemy bills again recently, taking the CoO3 monsters up to lvl438/466, which means it takes me significantly fewer runs through to get Laharl back to 1008 - or weapon mastery.

Thats a cause for concern to say the least.

                This forum's great.

Thanks to all the enthusiasm in this thread I've had Disgaea since PAL release day (I'm "one of them" see). I often work away from home so I don't get to play anything like every night but every evening I get the chance I put in another half hour or so. I would have been utterly lost but thanks to all the good advice here I'm up to Episode 4 (IIRC - the one where you're searching for Flonne's pendant), Laharl is level 15 with about 12 hours on the clock. I've taken a few items through the first ten levels of Item World so Laharl's sword currently has something like a Level 42 Statistician along with a few other random residents. In one Item World level I even managed a 7-colour geo-panel explode-a-thon which took ages to work out but was hugely satisfying to get right.

I still don't fully understand everything but one thing that's great about this game is it doesn't matter - there is an almost infinitely flexible learning curve so I can try things out when I feel like it, not when the game dictates I have to.

This is the second time a massive thread here has encouraged me to buy, and helped me to appreciate, a truly brilliant and frighteningly deep game. (The other one being... well, I'll let you guess that I think!)

So thanks to all of you who have contributed to this thread so far especially Saur & co. You guys are practically providing a public service. Have an unopened drink (level 100) on me.

I bought this game without taking too much notice of the long topics. I had read a small topic on another Forum but was reluctant to splash out on the PAL CD. VG+ and their pre-played items came to the rescue.

I must say this thread has had it uses as has the Doublejump Books (writers of the Strategy Guide) Forum which I joined the other day.

It was due to this and related threads that I am currently awaiting the arrival of "La Pucelle Tactics" from VG+ which if the next released game from the Japanese writers of Disgaea.

I hope to get my Star Mage up to Lvl 100 this afternoon. I think the Galaxy Mage should then be available. (either there, or at Lvl 120 I think).

The Adobe Reader download of the Strategy Guide is worth downloading from the Doublejump Books Web site as it is identical to the printed guide and lists all characters and items which is useful. Maps are there as are some tips on various things.

Nearly 10,000 views for this thread! Keep it going chaps!

Just a quick Q for you folks who have opened Cave of Ordeals, did you do this through bribery and voting or did you have to persude by force? If by voting what rank did you need to get it open?
I'm at rank 8 and the senators are mostly total opposition or loathe so bribery is proving near impossible and I'm not high level enough yet (69) to kill the buggers.

You need to be pretty powerful to persuade by force as I found out the hard way. I have succeeded in bribing on the stronger enemies vote and I think their opinion remains for a while so a quick return may involve less bribery. I will try that this afternoon maybe.

Note... the 400th reply to the thread!!!

                        401! um... woot.

anyway, yeah, i've been spending lots of time with disgaea since the PAL release, and at this point (40-odd hours in), i'd honestly say it's one of the absolute best games i've ever played. the story, characters and (excellent, if -pah!- english-only) voice acting in particular are fantastic, and really kept me playing - i love the episodic weekly-anime vibe it has. plus, more than one episode has seriously made me cry... *sniff*

um... level-wise, my 12-13 most-used characters are kinda between lvl 80 and 100 - earlier on, i spent ages levelling on the salamander's breath stage with all the zombies and the exp +100% geo symbol - if you spend a couple of turns using laharl and a few high-level/expendable people to combine every single zombie into a single lv 260-ish one, it'll give anyone who combos the final attack a good chunk of experience - combine that with the combo-percentage bonus you get if a character and their mentor both have the same weapon equipped (even if they're ****e with it), and it's pretty-much guaranteed levelling for whoever needs it. anyway, yeah, i just finished it and started the second cycle, aiming for a different ending. i can't believe how much there still is to do...

Well I'm now over 100 hours. Finally managed to get one character over Lvl 100 (Star Mage on Lvl 102).

I must admit I got totally fed up with trying to bribe the council to open up Cave of Ordeal. I did at least get Prinny Land available as a very slight consolation. I am now trying to decide what to do next. Item World seems a good bet.

It took me aaaages to open the Cave of Ordeal too, but it wasn't too hard in the end. All of my party are only between level 60 & 75, and I just concentrated on bribing the two strongest members of the council (both of whom were level 200ish), and then killed the rest of them. The main thing to do is get your influence as near to 700 as possible, since you can't have it less than 700 for that bill.

Looks like it's worth the effort though, I've done the first two stages, and there's obviously a massive potential for levelling up in stage three...but only my Red Skull even managed to do any damage to the enemies there...

My Laharl is now Lv. 162 and counting - I've done that 9x9 square of enemies in the Stellar Graveyard 112 times with a couple of stronger enemies bills, one winged slayer all dead and a level up.

My Mage is now up to 105 and can wipe that 9 in one.

I have been getting some levels working through Item World. I am working in a "Quality Staff" as it has a high population limit. Working through some items to add new residents. Looking good so far.

Did you level up on that 3x3 then?

I noticed something veeeeerrrrrrry strange going from Lvl 99 to Lvl 100 with the Mage. Instead of the usual 120,000-150,000 EXP needed, this level required over 400,000!! Has anyone else noriced this phenomena>
