I agree on Forza being a snorefest, mostly judging on Forza 2 though. The career setup used to be very poor, racing 16 laps on Silverstone with just 8 cars during event 1 and then yet again during event 3. The fantasy tracks were very poor too, not a patch on Polyphony's Deep Forest etc.

On the whole GT crushes Forza. I think that last-gen GT4 is actually a far better product than Forza 2 and 3 are together.

But Forza did nail its car roster, imo. Loved going about in the F355 challenge and classic BMW M3 amongst others. I think it had a good balance regarding manufacturers from all continents and hoped future GTs would 'westernize' this particular thing a bit more too.

Another thing I noticed, is the Piazza del Campo/Siena track still in? It was still there at Gamescom in what looked like a pretty much finished state. Maybe its a sign that the track list is far from complete still.

You can modify the cars but the Forza 3 style livery editor has been announced as something they'll be doing for GT6. That could of course change though.
I mean more the visual side of things. Being a lover of Japanese cars it would be nice to see the option to kit cars out with bodykits from people like G-Reddy, Border, TRD, Zero Sports and so on. The engine and chassis tuning in GT is spot on.

Ah, I understand what you mean.

I think Gran Turismo has always been a far more interested in the "traditional" side of things whereas I think the mods, the street mods if you like, have been far more Forza's game.

You never know what'll happen in the future though as things like visible damage, weather, drag racing, drifting, etc have all been added due to fans wanting it to happen. I can't imagine you're alone in wanting that stuff.

I see what you mean. The problem is that so many games like Need for Speed and Juiced gave us nasty neon clad cars with awful plastic kits. A lot of Japanese tuners have high quality aero parts that really look the part and can personalise your car.
That is one area Forze seemed to do fairly well, it had a decent set of body parts but none of this street neon nonsense.

Personally I've got far more time for GT's car lists than Forza's. For a supposed tuner racing game Forza has some glaring omissions.

For example only four Alfas from a hundred year history and no old mini (a car which has been raced in almost every discipline and has seen extension engine modifications that are available off the shelf) Not to mention the lack of classic Fords which have also seen similar history. Far too many prestige cars which would never see the track in anger, never mind all the random theoretically bespoke engine mods and upgrades.

I found Forza incredibly unbalanced. Buy an Audi, upgrade it up, no other car comes close to it in a class, not even a Ferrari! Made bothering with other cars pretty pointless, and of course once the online players do it you are racing nothing but Audi upon Audi, it gets pretty dull.

GT's problem is grinding. I doubt that has changed much, but its never been a game you could say you completed. However 1,000,000 credits for one car is daft.

Not saying the Forza tuning to be perfect at all but it is possible to make a normal road car as fast as anything. There are loads of 1300 bhp Supras and Skylines and massive spec Audis across the world. What I liked about the older GT games is the fact it wasn't about super cars.

I'm not really following all of this intertron commotion, but I'm pretty excited for GT5 myself.
I have spent numerous hours with the PSP game gathering up cars to transfer across in anticipation. Also as I have only completed parts 1 and 3, part 5 is a big jump for me. This is going to be my main gaming for quite some time. It'll prolly mean I play PSP GT whenever I'm away from home too. Gotta catch 'em all see.
Even better is that it's being bought for me from you lots' subscription money thanks to our November competition
                  Kept you waiting, huh?

As much as I enjoyed the game, this was a real issue for me. The car you chose almost became irrelevant as you could upgrade almost any car to unreasonable levels.

The Audi R8 V10 cover car itself summed up a lot of the bad points in the game for me personally. You could throw it around the tracks with little concern of crashing and although it was fairly easy to win races in the car there was no sense of danger, no excitement and the car just felt too safe to be enjoyable.

I know not everybody likes the fact that you start off with a cheap car and it takes ages to earn the money the top level cars in Gran Turismo but for me that's one of the benefits of the series.

I love the fact that it has cars like the Fiat 500 included and thought of 16 of those racing a track like Monza is close to perfect for me.

I know they don't have the really old tracks with corners like Curva di Lesmo which is a shame and I am a bit disappointed that the really old cars such as the Model-T Ford aren't in it but there's so much I really can't wait to try.

Just been reading through the car list for the game...

As seen on Polyphony Digital's Japanese website, the complete and official car list for Gran Turismo 5 has finally been revealed!

...not many Ferrari's in this is there? As this was going to be the first full game with the license, I thought they would of gone to town. Unless its DLC of course! I was hoping for a F355 Challenge.

Track list here also FYI. As I suspected, weather is only implemented on a handful of tracks...

As posted on Polyphony Digital's official website, here is the complete track list for Gran Turismo 5.

Yeah, F355 Challenge and F50 I was really hoping for. Especially the F355 was a very important car for the Italy based manufacturer. Plus, Yu Suzuki's game based on this car is the best racer i ever played.

                          And yeah I love it:

But who knows we'll get some DLC after all. Sony's surely holding things back for such a big release.

I'm having such a hard time deciding between this and NFS I might just buy neither and play Castlevania instead. :-p

I'm still trying to find a way to get both. GT's pretty cheap and is enormous, nice to mess around with and show off the PS3's visuals. NFS will be better for me on a pure gameplay side as it's more of a game than a showpiece, plus the times bit is like crack.
