There are two new Xbox xhots released yesterday, there not bad but definatley a big jump down from the PC version.

I just had a look around the "usual places" and there's no sign of Doom3 iso's yet. Either they are lying or it making its rounds on IRC as we speak.

EDIT: Here are the Doom3 xbox shots

Yeah blocky when looked at on a PC screen, but I reckon that when they are flying around on a normal TV screen, with the lighting effects and 5.1 sound, then folk who's xbox cost a mere 130 quid, will be rather chuffed!

I think we PC gamers are more "Enthusiasts" keen to see the latest and greatest graphical masterpiece, and for us the pain of constant upgrading is all part of the fun.

For my 2P I think it is fab that ID have provided X-box owners the same game with reduced res. I really think the lighting and sound effects will make it a damn fine game on the X-brick.

So surly a win win situation. Folk who have spent on l33t gaming rigs can brag and be happy. Folk with x-briks can shake their heads at the cost of PC gaming, and enjoy themselves playing their version.

      A very positive situation.

Mind you, if the game turns out to be ****e, there will be a whole load more dissapointed gamers that just a PC only affair... I can't see this being a problem.

Anyone sourcing this from the States at all? I know it's 10 days between releases, but surely their will be a few who'll be importing?

          :/

Hopefully, the online portion will be as well keyed as quake3 was, so at least you know who is being a ****e and who isn't

What a shame, it was bound to happen to such a high profile release, how it got leaked is another question. How you guys doing for memory, you lot mainly sticking with 512MB RAM or going for something bigger?

Been looking at some RAM and I am confused (as always): Whats the PC3200, PC2700, etc all about and lastly what is this CL3, NON-ECC CL2.5 etc?

Also, OT but if my motherboard has SATA connectors and I need to connect an ATA hard drive how does that work? You can see I have never built a PC before :P

The board will also have IDE connectors.

Abit supply an IDE->SATA block with theirs, although I'm told there is no performance advantage in doing so.

                  PC3200 = 400mhz PC2700 = 333mhz

CL is the cas latency, I can't rembember exactly what it it, but the lower it is, the faster the ram performs.

EDIT: There's no reason to use the SATA-IDE converters unless you need the extra IDE ports.

Cheers chaps, that saves some headache for me. Now why can't Doom 3 come out quick enough, I am desparate! Stu you got an X800?

PC3200 runs at 400MHz DDR, while PC2700 is 333MHz. Obviously, faster is better, as long as your motherboard will take it. I'd certainly hear an argument for the limited point of PC3200 if you've only got a Barton AthlonXP with its 333MHz bus, however.

CL3 means it takes 3 clock cycles to do a memory read, while CL2.5 can do it in two-and-a-half. Again, faster is better, so you'd want CL2.5 or even CL2 if you're a complete speed freak.

NON-ECC is as supposed to ECC, which stands for Error Checksum Correction (or somesuch). Basically, ECC has got an additional checksum bit for every byte, so you get better warning of any memory errors. Its rather more useful to server owners than desktop people, considering the cost however.

Nah, I'll be sampling the delights of doom3 via a 9800p.
