Hangover part II - I didn't like the first one but this one was amusing.

    The Commitments - verily good

I just watched Easy A because I'm a sucker for high-school rom-coms and Emma Stone stars in it.

Easy to watch and I wanted to see how it all turned out. Enjoyable pap.

I watched the two live action Deathnote films that were on Film 4 last night. I don't know anything about the manga, but both were decent, with the first one being the better of the two.

Paranormal Activity 2 - The original was out and out crap and the sequel does little to change that. Very much a retread that steps up the stupidity of the family being harassed.

Paranormal Activity 3 - It does contain one or two okay jumps and tries some different imagery. One playful scene with two characters and a mirror is well done but either through set up or familiarity the majority fall flat. The end is pure cheese and highlights how over stretched an already thin concept has become.

Why would you watch parts 2 and 3 of a series if you didn't like the first one, CTN?!

I thought the first was pretty spooky considering all you saw for most of it was a few doors slightly moving.

The trailer for part 3 (the prequel?) shows two girls saying Candyman Bloody Mary into the mirror and then it all going pear shaped.

Wow, nobody's appeared in the mirror in a horror film before...

I still need to man up and watch the second film as the first scared me a bit Well not so much scary watching it, more like going to bed afterwards and thinking about it.

I'd completely skipped the 2nd due to how pants the first was but my missus is a big horror fan and loves them (very easily spooked) so was super eager to watch 3 meaning I felt the need to see 2 so I could follow 3 easier. The laugh with the PA trailers is the scenes involved aren't ever in the final film. To be fair to PA3, the version of the Bloody Mary scene in the film is much better than the trailers.

My eyes wandering over to the left and seeing Ricky Bobby ruined the poignancy of your post.

                          Hurt Locker

Was on the other night. Contender for the worst film I've ever seen. In my life. Very slow moving, boring, and no tension whatsoever. The bit with a bomb in a car boot took so long to play out that halfway through I started a conversation with people watching with me. Then I went and made a hot drink. Came back and the same scene was STILL going on. Note to film makers: brevity helps with tension. Dwelling on the same thing numbs you to it.

Also, after reading the Wikileaks on the Iraq war and the atrocities and war crimes the US are committing (like blowing up children, shooting journalists and just killing civilians willy nilly), I have an extremely hard time believing how they're made out to be restrained, calm and collected heroes in this film.

And the worst ****ing thing? The British are made out to be bumbling, fumbling, villainous idiots. After the British shoot two handcuffed Iraqi hostages in the back, one British guy wastes all the ammo on a mounted machine gun (like some kind of Rambo-esque moron) before dying, while another totally fails to use a sniper rifle correctly and then dies, while the others start crying over the radio for backup. Cor blimey governor, looks like we need the Colonies to save us again, eh?

So the Americans walk in like heroes, take the dead British guy's rifle, and calmly take out the enemy with absolute efficiency, pausing only to wipe the British guy's blood from an ammo casing that's making the rifle jam. They just lay there, relaxed and in control, and then they open juice cartons and the one guys gives it to his buddy for the first sip, showing that not only are they heroes and professionals, but they're also gentlemen.

Everyone involved with this film can just **** off and die. It is a cinematic atrocity. I didn't even bother finishing after the above bit.

I liked the snipey bit, especially the way you'd see the muzzle flash before hearing the sound.

I actually quite liked the film. Thought it was pretty good and the main character was a bit crazy so he was interesting.

Yeah the Hurt Locker is a good film. Probably not deserving of its best picture Oscar... But then most best picture winners arent.
