I couldn't get through Planet Terror, it was pants, what were they thinking? Death Proof was also very bad, easily Tarantinos worst effort thus far, Inglorious Bastards bought him back in my good books though . . . . Im definetly keeping away from Machete, Hobo and Expendables 2. These movies are clearly not meant for me, although the thought that people spend their cash this kind of thing I find kinda disturbing.

The Pianist.
Part of me wants to appear all high brow and say how amazing it was. However, in reality it was the story of an unlikable, self-centred Jewish piano player during WWII and how he managed to
play the piano again after the war was over
. I'm not sure what happened to
the rest of his family. He didn't seem to care either
.
EDIT: Deathproof was brilliant.

Its ten times the film the vast majority of average movies are.

I love Planet Terror.
What's not to love...Bruce Willis, Rose McGowan, precious little plot & mountains of gore.
It was awesome!!!
I really am realising as I get older that the more stupid & OTT the film is the more I enjoy it & Planet Terror was definitely one of those films
I wish I could have seen it in the cinema properly as the Grindhouse double feature that would have been heaven.

Just watched Observe And Report. Very STRANGE film, a comedy but not really a comedy, Ray Liotta, racial stereotypes, some misplaced ultraviolence, didn't really work at all but it kept me watching it. Paul Blart was better but this is so odd, it has that WTF?! factor. I was more watching it as a drama/thriller, not a great one but seems to work better that way. Totally hatstand.
Gonna have to watch that Planet Terror DVD I got for a quid a few weeks back, I'm expecting I'm gonna hate it but that happened with Death Proof and I *loved* it, shall see what happens...

I find people like these movies because they are made to be bad on purpose, or 'trashy' as Rmoxon says. In much the same way some men like to pay to have young Asian ladies **** all over them.
If I'm expecting **** in my face that doesn't make it any better.
Looking on Rotten Tomatoes however it seems that this 'trashy' vibe isn't as niche as I'd expected, unless people thought PT was genuinely good like they did with The Expendables (talk about 'gone over the head'). I only hope that scat fetishes aren't so mainstreamLast edited by dataDave; 05-01-2012, 02:11.

Maybe its simply down to what you find funny.
You cannot please everyone though, especially not boring pretentious types
Seriously though, its all about diiferent types of humor, and this one couldnt possibly appeal to all tastes.
I love dumb tongue in cheek movies personally, and judging by imdb many others besides....probably why i love films like starship troopers, evil dead etc.
Anyway there is always the criterion collection if this doesnt float your boat!Last edited by PaTaito; 05-01-2012, 03:01.

Sorry, not convinced. I loved Black Dynamite because although it was knowingly "trashy" it was ultimately a comedy, and all comedies live or die on their jokes/sketches being funny, which it proved very well. I also loved Starship Troopers and Evil Dead. Both completely different budgets but more importantly WELL MADE films.
Planet Terror and Death Proof, whilst maybe technically well enough made, were both badly executed IMO, esp in tone. They were all over the place. Complete waste of the talent on board. Apart from the stunt lady in Death Proof, she was clearly just hired for her 1 particular skill . . . . and it certainly wasnt acting!
