No comments on our heroic away draw at Reading?
Defensively OK I thought (apart form the goal) even if the commentators are incompetent at describing defensive work. Thought we were way too hurried in possession - I kept wanting the ball to Lucas(!) to slow it down. Gerrard shows once again that he can no longer effectively play in his "first" position as Rafa said 5 years ago now. Not involved defensively and not covering runners. Insua was done too often by pace BUT Aurelio just did not help, only seemed to come back a few times. Seems like we have yet to turn that corner. Still.
....sigh....

Word on the street here in da 'Pool is that Maxi Rodriguez has been pencilled in for a medical for today or tomorrow morning. His agent is already on Merseyside awaiting his client to travel, but due to the weather etc etc.
As much as I love Dirk, having Maxi play in his natural role down that flank would be awsome. The lad scores goals. A lot more than Dirk.

hoolak, I disagree. Babel has been given plenty of chances and he has only ever done "well" from the bench. His performances when starting have been woeful.
Kuyt scores plenty from right midfield actually - more than Maxi. I hope get Maxi as it will shake things up a bit but not sure he will be great for us.

Babel has had more than enough chances. He could still be a very good player though. I think he needs a boss who will put his arm around his shoulder when he makes mistakes.
Rafa will never do that, its not in his style. Maxi will give us a new option, one i hope will lead to some creativity on the wings. Everything for Liverpool is far too predictable at the moment, mainly due to the poor form of the creative players.

It's the strength in depth that Liverpool have lacked, they can't really afford to offload many of their better fringe players, even if they only rank as 'good' rather than brilliant.
Chelsea have lost four players to the African nations cup, and if Anelka stays fit I doubt they'll even notice it due to squad depth. Man U are starting to suffer a little when they get injuries now because a lot of their second string are either inexperienced or getting on a bit.

Maxi at Atletico - 121 league games: 32 goals
Derek at Liverpool - 118 league games: 32 goals
Still it looks like more than a decent punt for ?1.5m, options and all that jazz.

Exactly, for that price it's a steal. Adds much needed squad depth. We need more experienced players like this to help towards the quick fix that is needed right now. To start with either Maxi or Kuyt and then have the option to throw one or the other on as a sub would be great.
Both players are versitile too.
