I'm not saying its a crap game, but as far as Resident Evil games are concerned its beyond crap. And if the producers are perfectionists, they must not have very high standards. C'mon its a great action game, but as a die hard Resi fan all they have done is throw in some old characters and story to make it so. The addition of a forced co-op, Non stop anmo, no puzzles and enemies with guns! This is no freaking Resident Evil. And it hurts me to say so. Especially after playing through Resident Evil 2 just before this for the Re play thread this is crap. It is everything Resident Evil isnt. As a stand alone action game, its good though.

What a crying shame. Spent forever on the final boss last night and its terrible. The AI just isn't up to the task remotely and I couldn't get a decent online buddy at all so after spending forever on what in a standard SP would be a straight forward boss I ended up not beating him and using up all my items and ammo.

Now I'm faced with playing the game more so I can build up my ammo and items again in the hope that when I retry the boss I get a decent coop buddy. Can't say my interest is going to hold that long. I've enjoyed the game a lot whilst its lasted but most definately the lack of 'Resi Evil' styling is a bit of a let down (as is the none existant story) and the focus on Coop (though fun) is the games single biggest mistake. Should have been an additional mode.

Well i think quite rightly as they pointed out on gametrailers there was a fundamental flaw in the combat system ....and instead of fixing it they compensated with the ai of enemies.....like enemies would run...then suddenly stop close then walk ....its become more action and less survival horror....but the game controls still geared to a survival horror game

Still it is a good game though

My main gripe with the game is just in the name. It is NOT a Resident Evil game. Resident Evil was always my most adored franchises along with Shenmue, but this is crap. Its not what the series is about. It plays differently, and if it wasnt for a few tacked on bits of story to keep fans happy it wouldnt be RE at all. And its a shame. Everytime i hear the end of level stats music i want to put on an original because its just there to tease.

If i am a reviewer i would review this for what it is. A Resident Evil game, and it would honestly get about a 3/10, and thats no lie. It does nothing for the series. I bashed EDGE's review of a 7/10 and i still dont agree with their comments, but that score is too high! If Capcom named it something else it would probably get a 9 from me. But i look at the cover, read the name, and expect a RE game. Not some Gears Of War rip off. I just hope all this bad publicity makes Capcom at least attempt a proper game again.

Also whats the go with the end of chapter report cards? Resident Evil was always meant to feel like one big connected area, but now its just set in stages. I can fault this all day long.

Am i expecting too much? Am i living in the past? I got no idea but as a Resident Evil game this is, as you british would say, complete and utter bollocks.

There is a method to beat it that requires one bullet in his final form.

When you are on the raised area, wait for him to raise his arm preparing for his arm slam and run behind him and slash his weak spot with your knife (or shoot it). He will stagger and then do his attack where a tentacle vortex comes out of the ground. After this the weak spot on his chest is exposed. MAKE SURE YOU ARE AT FULL HEALTH. Shoot this weak spot and he will be stunned. Run up behind him and you will get the restrain prompt. If you are at full health, restrain him, follow the button prompts and BAM!, boss is complete!

Cuber - I have to disagree with your approach to reviewing this game. If you are going to review a game for what it is, do it without comparing it to other games and take it for what it is doing by itself. If you are going to review it as a Resident Evil game, how would you do that when the series covers Resi 1-3 and Veronica but then has Outbreak, Resi 4, Gun Survivor 1+2, Dead Aim and Gaiden, all radically different games?

Its unfair to review a game and say its crap because its not like other games.

For me RE5 is a 7/10 and thats just basing it as a game on its own, it has many problems but its still enjoyable.

The main difference is that unlike outbreak, dead aim etc, it is a numbered game. Being a numbered game means that it is in fact a part of the "main" series, one that Capcom have developed into an ongoing story about Umbrella, Wesker etc. The others we know are a branch off. Take for example Halo Wars. Could you imagine the reviews being as good as they were if it were entitled "Halo 4"? Just imagine the ****storm it would create. As well as what reviewers would do to it. But instead giving it its own name, gives it its own identity, people know its an off shoot just like the games you mentioned, so expect its going to be different.

But when Halo 4 does arise people want a continuation of what made Halo great. And i bet you my left nut its more of the same with added bits. Not a total revamp of the game, to make it different in every aspect with just a few bits and bobs to keep die hards happy (lets pretend Hao Wars is actually Halo 4)

As i said, if this was called something else, it would be a 9 for me. But as a Resi fanboy and die hard fan, its utter crap. It takes the series backwards and the story is just there to appease people like me. And it doesnt work Capcom.

Well having only played this in live co-op mode, RE5 (so far) has to be one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences that I've had on the 360. Really is a joy to play in my opinion and I love the fact that you're always on the edge of your seat.

It may not be a true 'Resident Evil' for a lot of fans, but when a game is this much fun I don't really care tbh!

CV wasnt numbered, isnt that part of the main series?

Thought the number was just to sell the game to be honest.

If your talking Code Veronica i think it was never meant to be a part of the main story. My memory is blurry so its either that or some PS deal to have the numbered title.

Exactly Sony paid to have the 3 in the title of their exclusive game becuase it would sell more, Code Veronica was the actual sequel, Resident Evil 3 actualy took place at the same time as Part 2 and Code Veronica.

So Code Veronica is actually the sequel if youre talking in correct terms, not Resi 3.

Also i'm pretty sure Code veronica felt more like a sequel, resident evil 3 felt a bit rushed and was basicaly one big machine gun battle.

Code Veronica is the true Resident Evil 3. The game was set to be a true sequel to Resident Evil 2 but Capcom wanted to squeeze out another game on the Playstation to garner the sales especially after CV was delayed and it became apparent the Dreamcast wasn't going to sell i huge numbers. That's partially why Resident Evil 3 is more action based and straight forward than Resident Evil 2. So technically speaking Resi 4 and 5 are 5 & 6.

Also, Chopemon, cheers, will try that tonight

Yep i searched it i was right lol. Stupid Sony. Regardless true die hard fans knew the deal, where as games like outbreak and survivor we knew were spin offs. If RE5 was entitled something else i wouldnt give a toss. Fact is, despite money hats, which isnt the case now, RE5 is a continuation of the story. So i expect a proper Resident Evil game. Not this crap.

Oh and if you look at sales, Resident Evil games sold better on Sony platforms regardless of numbers. CV sold better, 4 sold better etc.

And your right on the one big machine gun. It was a pretty crappy game. Still better than RE5 mind.

Regardless of all this, it still doesn't change the fact that this is no Resident Evil game, no matter which way you put it.
