Talking about future plans for Nintendo, Furukawa has stated Nintendo is working on software to see the Nintendo Switch through to March 2025. He dances around the successor subject but when it comes to the existing system focus is firmly on maximising the existing financial year and expanding their developer teams for the weight of work they are now undertaking on the software front.

My bet is now starting to land on an October 2024 launch

I'll be goddamned if Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD Ports aren't the last first-party titles that Nintendo drop for the Switch in 2024.

I also want to see Woolly World Deluxe.

I can definitely imagine it, especially if Switch 2 is backwards compatible. Given the heavier leaning we're seeing into ports and updates I wouldn't be surprised if the last first party title is in early 2025 and something relatively safe like another update of a past Mario title.

We're a year out and Jr1 is already saying he wants a Switch 2. Given the likely cost - and I'm assuming it will launch with something like the next Mario mainline entry - I'm already prepping the missus about it... because really the justification for it is I won't need to by one for myself so technically we both get one for 50% off

            Said nobody else ever.

Modern Yoshi games are awful. They make Kirby games look action-packed.

I think Nintendo will stick with recent tradition and look to Zelda for their final first-party software, just like they've done since Gamecube. Hence the last two games in the franchise that are now glaringly conspicuous by their absence on Switch.

I'm so behind on Zelda at this point, still haven't worked through Skyward HD or built the muster for TOTK. Wind Waker HD could sway me again, not so sure about TP.

Given Nintendo is dipping into SNES remakes now they could do Yoshi's Island Remake

I'm in a similar boat to you. Still haven't started TOTK (partly because I'd rather replay BOTW on Switch - originally played it on WiiU) and my copies of Skyward HD and Link's Re-Awakening are still on the shelf. I've always considered WW and TP to be the weakest 3D Zeldas but having them all on one platform in one way or another is an obvious boon, especially if Switch 2 is definitely going to have BC and maintain the Switch Online system.

Don't even get me started on the handheld Zeldas!

They've already kinda done that. For 3DS. Back in 2014. It wasn't very good.

Not really. They're pretty slow-paced and sedate for the most part IMO, with a few exceptions (Forgotten Land, Return to Dreamland, Adventure, etc.). They're definitely not 2D Mario-esque.

That said, I really enjoyed playing Kirby's Blowout Blast on the 3DS.

Likely guff, rumour started that Switch 2 is targeting a 24 September 2024 launch with two SKU's - Standard Model at $449 and a Digital Only model at $399

                          Q3/4 2024 for sure.

Goddamn that would be incredible. I think I would have to get one day one if so.

Nintendo Accounts will 'ease transition' to Switch successor, says Doug Bowser | Eurogamer.net
It's borderline not news but given this is Nintendo it's never the less still reassuring to have it reiterated that your existing Nintendo Accounts will survive the transition to the Switch 2

My goodness Mario Wonder is a masterpiece... had a solo play last night and then some multiplayer with the kids this morning. It's just wonderful.

My eldest daughter (8yo) also mentioned she liked the flat style of it (2D) over Odyssey and it struck me it's the first time they're playing a proper 2D Mario game...

                              I feel really old.

Gonna take this source with a considerable pinch of the proverbial, but if this patent is true...I don't like the sound of it at all. This is potentially WiiU Part Deux begging to happen IMO.

Nintendo has a patent filed for an apparent dual-screen console that can be split in half and become two separate handheld devices.
