Switching to yet another type of universal standard charging port/cable would be so expensive, wasteful and time consuming. Has to be easier to tighten minimum standards of the usb c port to ensure cheap/weaker parts aren't being used in them than changing the port again in the tens of thousands of devices already on the market.

Yeah changing the port type again is a no from me. If your main job is repairing USB cables I would suggest that might give you a somewhat skewed perspective on their reliability.
USB-C is great. Small, reversible, carries tons of power and data bandwidth. ****'s awesome. We've never had it better.

ports not cables,
I'd say working in a busy phone repair shop would qualify you to know which port your seeing fail the most, Yes your job is to repair failed things so your seeing a higher number of items but when your only having to replace usb c ports and very rarely having to do lightning ports which is what he said, you start to think "hmm theirs an issue with this port type" that the other current standard doesn't have? that issue is that the middle post can bend and break as its the weakest point in the port and often made of plastic.

Yep, legacy support will only harm your next-gen releases if your legacy content is the same stuff you plan on shovelling out again or your next-gen stuff isn't up to par. We need B/C if only to help safeguard somewhat against over reliance on shovelling out Switch reruns whether from third party's or from Nintendo themselves. I'm in the boat that the Switch 2 should be the 'safest' and most 'samey' new console Nintendo has made in decades but of the opposite view for their software, it's time for all-new content, distinctly different stuff from what you can already play.

Honestly though, if you've spent any money on Nintendo's ridiculous retro game rental service, then you've told Nintendo that you'll pay for what you probably previously bought again and again and again. You can't really blame them for selling you what you've told them you'll buy.
I mean people actually pay for Nintendo's online service which doesn't offer dedicated servers.

I stopped doing that, and I've only sampled their emu after deciding it was a load of ****. It also gave me a good excuse to escape Splatoon 3's clutches.
Proper premium M2-esque updated ports of 8-bit to 64-bit titles with 16:9 aspect ratios, Sonic Mania-level CRT screen filters, unlockable galleries/stuff, original/arrange OSTs, and possibly really good online modes (with dedicated servers handling decent netcode) would certainly get all of my money. I want to have to scratch my head and think about playing F-Zero either on the MiSTer/PVM combo, or on the living room console. It shouldn't be a complete no-brainer like it is now.
A lot of Nintendo's old games are still great, for a lot of people they're considered the greatest ever. They deserve a lot better than simply dumping.Last edited by dataDave; 01-08-2023, 09:34.
