I got to play F-Zero, Sin and Punishment, Streets of Rage 2 and a bit of Alisia dragoon while overlooking the sea, at a lovely little campsite at the weekend, id say that's bloody lovely in my book, no pissing about with rom's or emulators and dodgy sites.

So we know how their higher tier service has done? I never saw the value in that but I’m curious if it has won over many subscribers.

Last update was circling around 36m. I imagine including the expansions will be a big driver but given the popularity of Smash, MK8 and AC as well...

People need to be more discerning.

I'm sure it'll be out by the tail end of next year but if it isn't backward compatible with the Switch then I am out.

Speaking of Emu, the Retroid Pocket 2s just got announced, supports GameCube better thanks to a new more powerful chipset & drumroll, has analog triggers.

It's a shame Valve is so pleasant and passive in its marketing. Barring having Mario Kart 9 on it etc the Steam Deck effectively is the Nintendo Switch 2 which could have made for some fun 90's era competitive advertising if they were minded

Valve has a history of abandoning their tech, you get a big push like you did with the steam deck then nothing from them, steam link, steam machines, steam controller, and the Valve index VR headset all ditched soon after launch by them. The index situation sucks as we got a new Half Life they show they can still make amazing games and then nothing, the index is still listed at its original rrp no push to try and get more people to buy it no price cuts and the site that launched it has not been updated since March 2020.

I wonder why they do it, they sell well enough most of the time but if Valve isn't really interested in making a go of it then it's a lot of effort to little end

It's like they know how to make and launch tech but don't really know how to support it onces its out, the Steam deck is at least staying in the gaming news loop but its not down to anything valve are doing

Valve still owes us another Half-Life Alyx game too, they're only allowed to abandon it when it comes to a third entry

Valve are self-owned and are making an insane amount of money even for doing practically nothing.

From what I've read from the people who have left them, it all kinda comes down to this. They have this weird decentralised way of working, which in practice means very little gets done. It only works because they're earning more money than they know what to do with.

Trying to make bank by selling hardware is like trying to make profit selling food in a restaurant. The real money is made from the software (drinks).

I don’t think Nintendo will be setting any new commercial records the year they release their new hardware, certainly not compared to 2023. That two-year onboarding phase is generally the most painful, other than being able to shout “Look how fast our hardware is selling out!”, if you’re lucky.
